Will and testament by Isabella Whitney is a poem about how she is forced to leave London because she can no longer support herself there and would miss her city very much. She speaks very highly of London and everything it has to offer. In the poem she also speaks of many different locations in that has a significant meaning to her.
“I leave two streets, full fraught therwith, they neede not farre to seeke. Watlyng streete, and Canwyck streete “
Watling street is an important ancient road build by romans. It ran from London north to the intersection with fosse way. It also passes through saint Albans. Watling street importance was use as thoroughfare throughout the middle ages. In other words, a path forming a route between two places or a main road in a town. This street brought back memories to Isabelle as she leaves London.
“and such as make the sweeping cloakes, with gardes beneth the knee. Artillery at temple bar and daggers at tower hyll:”
Temple bar was a principal ceremonial entrance to the city of Westminster behind St. Paul’s cathedral. it used to stand across from fleet street but now it’s the entry to paternoster square. The early bar back in the 13th century was just a simply chain across the road. In 1666 the temple bar was built it was reputedly designed by Christopher wren and was completed by 1672. According to Britain express.com Temple bar is historically important as the point where major ceremonies occur. The temple bar must have been important to Whitney because it the only gateway to the city of London.

I also wrote about watling street. I was very surprise that it still exist to date. It was very important because it was built by the Romans and was also called Roman street.

Awa, as you continue to work on your map, remember that your viewers should get a sense of some kind of organizing structure and argument for your maps. Ideally, there should be a clear logic to the locations you’ve selected, and something that you think connects them together or helps enhance our understanding of the poem. In other words it’s not just about describing the location but adding some analysis and reflection to its significance. Additionally, be sure you cite your sources and include original writing on your map descriptions.
