Graphs Maps Trees (Moretti, 2005) main argument was based on on history- graphs, evolutionary theory – trees and Geography – Maps.
Moretti described the social and political changes by charting a series of novels that was published every year in countries like Italy, France, Japan, and Denmark. These graphs were done in an informative way to highlight the current events in a very simplistic manner for the average person to adapt. In this way, a person, who is not that verse in social issue can view his graphs a comprehend what is going on.
The history of novels that is based on changes by individuals, who structures society and politics. His graphs were used to as a presentation tool to showcase enormous amount of data of the current political views.
Franco Moretti argument brought science and logic together to explained his views, which I find to be very compelling. To base one argument on science first of all one will have to be a logical thinker because of science on whole deals with logic. For Instance, A scientist cannot make the argument that the planet earth is round because I feel it to be that way. They must have some theory to back up their claim likewise Moretti.
The graph that I related to me was the “British Novelistic genres, 1740-1900” because it’s imagination based which is either very narrow or broad. It shows us the different types of novels the British people read.
InformationIsBeautiful.com was very informative. The visual that explained which movies that are accurate to its story and which parts of it that were true or not true. I can visually see now that so many films that people see that are not based on many facts. Also, The timing of this assignment to have this visual because on Sunday night it is the Oscar awards in which many films received awards for their work and because of this visual, I will be viewing films with new eyes.
The International Number Ones was very informative. The world is made up of very talented people, and I am not surprised that they are so many talented people in countries like Italy, Denmark, etc. What makes America great is that we are the makeup of a composite of people from all countries of the world. Although, many of these great people talents are not shown.

Rhetoric examines how language is being use and its method of communication. Moretti explained how language changes over a period of time. After one generational grows old and die, then it is been replaced by the new generation which request a whole new genre.
Moretti did extensive research on the humanities field that is why he can gave such great examples like the fall of novels in 1780-90, the 1810s – 1830s and in 1860-70 and according to him it was because of the virrlent censorship during the Kansei & Tempo periods and an indirect years leading up to meijia restoration. what I like about Moretti some how bridge both science and literature together under one umbrella.
Moretti audience was people within and outside of humanities field. Moretti argued that literacy scholars should stop reading books and start counting, graphing and mapping them instead. He insisted by doing so, will bring more life to a dying field. According to him “Books may hold knowledge, but we need to expand our minds and push through our limitations”. ” Using graphs as a device can help us find the distinctions throughout genres and not trust only our knowledge of what the writing could be classified as. In other words, humanities will take on a new genre which would be digital humanities. He also stated that literacy study has been random and unsystematic. A lot of scholars in the humanities field would not agree with Moretti approach and that is why is audience had to be a combination of people outside and within the field for his work to be known.

It’s like books either they are fiction or non fiction.Moreover, you should expand more on your argument’s regarding Moretti’s quantitative approach .
